Make Veggies Taste Better: Simple Green Smoothie

An easy and cheap way to eat more greens

According to the CDC, only 1 in 10 adults in get enough fruits and vegetables in their diet. We know a balanced diet is one of the keys to health, but there are lots of reasons why our meals are lacking in these sources of nutrition: habit, access, cost, etc.

One of the simplest ways to get a few servings in your diet is with smoothies.

A spinach, banana and mango smoothie is one of the easiest combinations because all of the ingredients can be stored in the freezer. Also, the smoothie tastes great with just some added water if you want to stay away from dairy.

Here are some of the nutritional benefits:

  • Fiber
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin K1
  • Folic Acid
  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Vitamins B6, B9 and E

Preparation:

When making a spinach, banana and mango smoothie, you want the majority of the smoothie to be made up of spinach. For one serving, try 1/2 banana and a 3–4 cubes of frozen mango. Then fill the rest of your single serve blender with spinach and water.

Another alternative to mango for those who need to have less sugar is to substitute with blueberries. You’ll also get more iron and fiber from blueberries.
